A Souperbowl Sunday Recipe

Today is Superbowl Sunday! A fun day for everyone, even those who don't like football. Being Giants fans, we don't have a loyalty to either team playing today. I mean we defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, so no bad feelings there. And just because the Eagles are in our same division, doesn't mean we wish them any ill will. Of course not. Never. We're going to remain neutral and just enjoy the game, the festivities, and especially the food!

As you probably know by now, we really love soup!! So for this chilly game day, we decided to whip up a pot of yummy chowdah and paired it with a refreshing Sam Adams Boston Lager! It's wicked ahhsome!!

NEW ENGLAND Clam Chowder 


  • 4 slices of bacon (cooked/crumbled)
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 - 8oz. bottle of clam juice
  • 3 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 cup canned sweet corn (drained)
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half, divided
  • 2 - 6.5 oz. cans chopped clams, undrained
  • Salt & Pepper to taste


Cook bacon until crisp, then place on paper towels to drain. In bacon drippings, saute celery, onion and garlic until tender. Add potatoes, water, clam juice, bouillon, salt, pepper and thyme. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

In a small bowl, combine flour and 1 cup half-and-half until smooth. Gradually stir into soup. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened.
Lower heat to slow simmer. Stir in clams (and it's juice), corn, crumbled bacon and remaining half-and-half. Cook until heated through.

Serve with Roots & Branches crackers!!
